What's going on with the Haven?

Here is the update you all have been waiting for.

Over the past several months, many people have reached out to ask what has been happening behind the scenes at Chilliwack Animal Safe Haven and why so many long-time volunteers, members, fosters, and supporters have expressed concern regarding the organization’s governance and leadership.

This update likely feels long overdue. While there are still many stories, experiences, and concerns that have not yet been fully shared publicly, it has honestly been difficult to know how to explain everything that has happened over the past several months.

Leaving people without the full picture was never anyone’s intention. However, early on in the organization efforts by members, individuals within member discussion groups were reportedly selectively screenshotting conversations and discussions and sending them to Katherine and the Board. Portions of those conversations were later referenced in affidavit materials used as part of legal action surrounding the March 23 EGM dispute.

For many of the individuals named in the petition and legal proceedings, the experience was deeply intimidating and stressful. After that point, many people became increasingly afraid to speak publicly, fearing that further statements, conversations, or frustrations could be taken out of context or used against them in additional legal action.

As a result, many supporters, donors, volunteers, and community members were left to see only fragments of what was happening while a much larger governance conflict continued behind the scenes.

At this point, many members feel they are now being asked to accept what they believe is another deeply flawed governance process surrounding the upcoming AGM.

For many involved, this increasingly feels like a turning point for the organization's future and member rights within it.

This summary was created using member communications, governance records, meeting minutes, legal filings, and documents shared with members over time.

The purpose of this update is not to create division or drama, but to provide transparency and allow donors and supporters to better understand why so many individuals connected to the organization have raised concerns over the past several months.

The timeline currently available is intentionally condensed and does not include every detail, communication, or concern raised throughout this dispute. A more detailed version with additional supporting information is intended to be released once completed.

Throughout all of this, many staff, volunteers, fosters, adopters, and supporters have continued focusing on the animals despite ongoing instability and conflict.

Regardless of individual perspectives, many community members continue to believe strongly in the original mission of helping vulnerable animals and supporting the people who care for them.

Thank you to everyone who has continued to ask questions, seek transparency, and support the animals and the people affected throughout this situation.
