Why is RAPS approach harmful to Chilliwack?

Did you know that the RAPS CEO allegedly makes a salary of over $150,000? Their CEO is now a consultant for the current board of directors, three of whom are both previous RAPS board members who do not live in Chilliwack.

Why is this change harmful to Chilliwack?

The Chilliwack Animal Safe Haven’s property at 49843 Chilliwack Central Road is valued at $2.5 million dollars. In 2020 RAPS’ Executive Director stated that they were looking for owned land. Our understanding is that the current board/RAPS are looking at subdividing the land, and potentially building a for-profit veterinary hospital.

What about the cats?

Historically the Chilliwack Animal Safe Haven has been a no-kill shelter. It is alleged that the board votes on whether or not to euthanize a cat any time expenditures exceed $500. Since the board has appointed RAPS agents, the number of cats at Safe Haven has gone through an alarming reduction.

How is RAPS interfering in the democracy of Safe Haven’s members?

Eyal Lichtmann, who is the CEO of RAPS has sent out two emails, and a What’s App campaign to RAPS members presumably seeking to ‘rig the election’ at the upcoming EGM on March 23rd. It is unjust, and unfair for people who do not even live in Chilliwack to decide the fate of Chilliwack Animal Safe Haven? If Eyal Lichtmann, his board members affiliated with RAPS, and board members who appointed these out-of-town members stay in office, our beloved Safe Haven will become unrecognizable.
